What Are Autoreponders?

When it comes to a discussion of an email swipe file, we are definitely NOT talking about spam or any other unsolicited bulk email. For the most part, email marketing involves autoresponders.

An effective autoresponder marketing campaign can greatly increase your bottom line... if you do it right.

An autoresponder is a computer script that automatically responds to an incoming email or input from an online form. There are two ways it happens:

1. Someone sends an email to a specified email address and the autoresponder sends back a particular message.

2. Someone types their email adress into an online form and clicks on the submit button. This triggers the autoresponder and it sends back a particular message.

Pretty easy, huh?

You can use an autoresponder to automatically send out a free report, an audio, a video, a message with a download location for ebooks and files, the first chapter of a book, etc. Use your imagination here... an autoresponder can send out any digital product or a download location of any digital product.

You can also use autoresponders in your customer service efforts... sending out a list of FAQ's, offering troubleshooting advice, or even as a reassurance that you'll respond to their customer service request within a specified period of time.

The really great thing about autoresponders is that you can also set them up to deliver a sequence of messages after the initial response... you can automatically follow up with your prospects or customers in a series of email messages spanning days, weeks, or even months.

My favorite autoresponder use is for the ezine or newsletter. With a good script or service you can send out your newsletter as a broadcast message whenever you want in addition to sending out the follow up messages. If you're good at writing ahead, you can also set up your newsletter to be sent out automatically by an autoresponder... A lot of 'gurus' do it this way. Write it once and put it into the sequence.

How Do You Set Up An Autoresponder?

Obviously, the first thing you need is an autoresponder script or a third party service to run it. Personally, I choose the third party service option... it's a lot less hassle, pretty affordable, and can be quickly and easily set up.

My autoresponder of choice is Aweber:

• They've been around since 1998 (which makes them one of the first autoresponder services established).

• They have been extremely dependable... no subscribers dropped, messages always send out correctly, automatically puts the stuff in to comply with CAN-SPAM laws, etc.

• Their system is really easy to use (writing the messages is hard enough... who wants to struggle with the software too?!?)

What Should You Write In Your Autoresponder Sequence?

Unfortunately, that's a HUGE question with no 'one size fits all' answer. It really depends on what your needs are and what you're trying to accomplish with your autoresponder series.

For example, if you're setting up a newsletter on autoresponder, then you'll need several issues of your newsletter prewritten to insert in the sequence. If you're using your autoresponder as a setup to market an MLM opportunity, then your needs will be drastically different.

What I'm trying to say is that autoresponder marketing is a GIGANTIC subject!

There are a couple of ways that you can learn about autoresponder marketing.

1. You can purchase information products that give you a clear outline of how to correctly set up your autoresponder sequences, what to say in each message, etc.

2. You can subscribe to many of the top 'marketing gurus' use their autoresponders and learn from their examples.

My best advice is to actually do both. Take a look at how the top 'marketing gurus' use their autoresponders and read as much information as you can on the subject.
