All About Sales Letter Swipe Files

Writing good sales letters is crucial to any business and a good reason why you should creat a sales letter swipe file.

Sales letters become necessary whenever you are trying to sell your product or service, but good copy is important for a lot of other purposes like brochures, newsletter subscriptions, pre-selling pieces, affiliate marketing pieces, etc.

Ultimately, you either have to learn how to write your own copy, hire someone to write it for you, or use a software program to generate your sales material.

Creating a sales letter swipe file will help you on your way to actually learning to write your own copy, but you can also benefit greatly from sales letter software. There are currently four main software programs on the market worth mentioning:

  1. Push Button Sales Letters - This sales letter software is produced by Marlon Sanders. In case you aren't familiar with Marlon, he is one of the 'big boys' of internet marketing and he really knows how to write sales copy and other marketing pieces. You owe it to yourself to get a subscription to his ezine... that will really give you some material to add to your sales letter swipe file.

Push Button Sales letters is actually my first recommendation for sales letter writing software. If Marlon puts his name on it... It's good.

  2. Amazing Sales Letter Creator - Although I haven't purchased Amazing Sales Letter Creator, it does sound intriguing... 350 proven money-making headlines, 999 power words and phrases, 23 opening letter statements, 48 example bullets, 5 price introductions, 11 guarantees, 9 limited offer statements, 10 act now or lose out closes and 16 p.s.'s. I also like the idea of a sales letter blueprint... that's something that I've been meaning to put together for my own use and haven't gotten around to it yet. The formatting of the salespage is pretty crumby, but I'm still planning to review this product soon!

  3. Instant Sales Letters - I purchased Instant Sales Letters quite some time ago and I still refer to it often. Instead of being software, this product actually gives you the sales letter with notes where you should fill in your product name, a benefit, guarantee, etc. You put the entire letter into your word processing program or into your HTML template (that's what I do) and then edit it to look and read the way you want. Nothing to install or mess with... whew!

This product is from Yanik Silver... a really good copywriter. He provides a lot of guidance on what kinds of things you should put in your sales material and even covers direct marketing strategies. I highly recommend this one... especially for the price.

Now that we've talked about sales letter generation software, let's talk about the kinds of materials you should include in your sales letter swipe file.

There are some really great copywriters out there that charge thousands of dollars to create a sales letter for a client. You may not be able to afford to hire a copywriting giant, but you can certainly read examples of their work and learn from them.

As you examine the sales letters below, you can begin to see some basic formulas that many of the copywriters use to make the sale. Take note that:

  • Most start with an attention grabbing headline.

  • Many include a sub-headline or two after the headline.

  • All the sales letters below try to build rapport with their visitor as quickly as possible and many address the visitor direction with a "dear friend" type of opener.

  • Many try to suck the visitor into a story that motivates them to keep reading.

  • Note how the sales letters use bullets and sub-headlines throughout the copy to make it easy to scan on a computer screen.

  • Great sales letters use audio, video, and picture files to help illustrate their point and keep the prospect interested.

  • Sales letters almost always include a laundry list of what you get, the price, and a guarantee.

  • All sales letters include a closer.

  • Most sales letters include a signature of the letter writer.

  • Most good sales letters include a P.S.

Below you'll find examples of sales letters and links to some high priced copywriters' work so that you can add them to your sales letter swipe file. Most of the examples are written by internet marketing types -- they happen to spend the most time testing their sales letters and really understand how important a sales letter is... that's why their sales copy is the best!

  • Instant Internet Profits Sales Page - Check out this page written by copywriter Yanik Silver. Take note of how he instantly starts working on your emotions... this is a great example for your sales letter swipe file.

  • The Insider Secrets Of An eBay Millionaire Example - This is a really great example for your sales letter swipe file. It immediately gets your attention and keeps you engrossed in the copy all the way to the sale. Make note of how the writer uses bullets, images, and colors to keep your attention and make the copy easy to read.

  • The Accelerated Internet Wealth Video Series Sales Letter - I absolutely LOVE the first headline in this example: "Watch Shocking Video Footage:" The cool thing about the headline isn't just the wording... which works by the way... it's the fact that the headline is acutally a picture, not a piece of text. Because it's a picture, it can use different fonts and effects that you could do in a text headline... another good note for the old sales letter swipe file, huh?

If you decide to check out this example sales letter (and you should) don't stop at the headline... read the whole thing. It's very well written, especially the use of bonuses and video.

  • SEO Elite - Another great example of how to use a picture as the headline. This website also has excellent copy, great readablilty, and awesome attention grabbers. It also employs an exit popup strategy that works really well. It's just an all-around great example to add to your sales letter swipe file.

  • Blogging Equalizer Sales Page - This is another great formula type sales page to add to your sales letter swipe file. It has good graphics, a picture of the product, and good copy. I also like the drop caps that are used sparingly.

  • The Rich Jerk - I included this as a sales letter example because it uses an extreme, but unique selling position. Having a Unique Selling Position (USP) is crucial to making a lot of sales. Withoug a USP you'll probably do okay... With a USP your sales letter will be much more effective.

Do you have a great sales letter that you think should be included in the sales letter swipe file above? If you do, let me know and maybe we'll add it.

Best Wishes,
